Food and accommodations are the most important things to know before we plan a trek. There are many trekking in the world which requires camping to reach on high elevation. Proper tea house and good food is fortune on mountain. If you are planning a trip to Everest base camp and wonder to know the basic services you get during the trek then we are here with a best information of food and accommodation on the Everest treks.
Everest base camp also known as EBC is situated on 5364m above sea level. It takes 8 days to reach the camp from Lukla. Thus, we should spend seven nights on different elevation to reach our destination. The trekking in Everest region has started before a century. It is well developed in current time. We can get varieties of tea houses which serve best facilities from Lukla to Dingboche. Thukla, Lobuche and Gorekshep are more remote and we cannot get attached room on these places till date.
Food on Everest region
We can get varieties of food including Nepal, Indian, western and local items. The food varieties are more in lower elevation than in higher elevation above Dingboche. The most common food on all tea houses of Khumbu region are:
Breakfast: tea/coffee. Jam, honey, butter, bread, toast, french toast, porridge, museli and milk
Lunch: Nepali thali (Dal, rice, curry, pickle, pappad, and lentils), additional food items are available in Nepali thali. Burger, pizza, noodles, chowmein, sphagette, fried rice, omlet, macroni, soup, mo:mo, popcorn and many more food items as avaliable in the menu.
Dinner: Most of the food items in lunch and dinner are same. We prefer to take Nepali thali for the dinner so that you can get good sleep and the food get digested properly. The common dinner items are Nepali thali, macaroni, pizza, burger, noodles, chowmein, sphagette, sandwich and momo.
Veg or chicken thali can be choosen. It is always better to eat available food in the tea house and meat items are not good enough to eat as it is not fresh and not preserved well. It takes long time to reach on the tea house. Thus, meat is not preferred to eat.
Accommodation on Everest region
Everest region provides standard, semi luxury and luxury accommodation. The normal rooms are called standard room where we get twin beds, and a table. The beds will be comfortable and you would have sound sleep.
Semi luxury tea houses provides attached bathroom. It is available in Phakding, Namche, Tengboche and Dingboche. Lobuche and Gorekshep lacks attached bathroom.
Luxury tea houses are advanced tea houses that provides bed heater in all places and attached room on available places. It is the most expensive tea house in Everest region.
Conclusion
Everest base camp trek route is well developed route where we can see good trails with stone path and resting places until reaching Lobuche. After then the trail is rocky and challenging due to Khumbu glacier. We can get good food in each meal. There are tea houses in certain distances that helps to get our lunch on time. The availability of facilities supports to get better rest on the evening. We can get standard, semi luxury and luxury tea houses in this region. Each tea houses provides both Nepali and western food.
